用法辨析
- should是助動(dòng)詞shall的過去式,只用于第一人 稱:①用于陳述語氣:構(gòu)成第一人稱過去將來時(shí)、過去將來完成時(shí)以及過去將來進(jìn)行時(shí)。②用于主句中構(gòu)成虛擬語氣:“should+動(dòng)詞不定式的原形”表示虛擬結(jié)果時(shí)指現(xiàn)在,表示推測(cè)結(jié)果時(shí)指將來; “should+動(dòng)詞不定式的完成式”也表示虛擬結(jié)果或推測(cè)結(jié)果,但使用范圍較窄,一般表示一件事情根據(jù)條件本可能實(shí)現(xiàn),但由于沒有根據(jù)條件或條件不存在,因而沒有實(shí)現(xiàn),即表示與過去事實(shí)相反。在并不強(qiáng)調(diào)由于某種條件而產(chǎn)生某種結(jié)果時(shí)往往不帶條件狀語或條件狀語分句。③構(gòu)成第一人稱委婉、謙遜的語氣。④I should like用來表示愿望或意向,有時(shí)也可表示猶豫。后接動(dòng)詞不定式的一般式時(shí)表示現(xiàn)在或?qū)砜赡軐?shí)現(xiàn)也可能不實(shí)現(xiàn)的愿望; 后接動(dòng)詞不定式的完成式時(shí)表示對(duì)過去一件未做的事情感到惋惜; like用完成式,后接動(dòng)詞不定式的一般式時(shí)表示過去有做一件事的愿望,但由于某種原因,這件事未做成,在該結(jié)構(gòu)中l(wèi)ike也可以名詞作賓語。
- should用作情態(tài)動(dòng)詞shall的過去式:①用于陳述語氣:shall用于第二、第三人稱時(shí)表示命令、許諾、威脅、警告、禁止等,當(dāng)它指的是過去事件時(shí)就要用should。在表示意向、要求、決定、建議等意義的從句里,如果主句的謂語動(dòng)詞是過去式,則從句中的should既可看作情態(tài)動(dòng)詞shall的陳述語氣過去式,也可看作它的虛擬語氣,但當(dāng)句子的語氣不夠委婉時(shí)宜看作前者。②用于虛擬條件從句中,可用于各種人稱,有以下兩種含意:一是表示對(duì)將來事件的推測(cè),相當(dāng)于漢語中的“萬一”,這時(shí)主句往往不用虛擬語氣,而用陳述語氣或祈使語氣; 二是表示虛擬讓步。③在表示命令、要求、建議等意義的詞所支配的分句里,通常也用should來構(gòu)成虛擬語氣,這時(shí)無論主句用現(xiàn)在式或過去式,從句都可用should,這樣的結(jié)構(gòu)主要有以下兩種:一是表示命令、要求、建議等意義的動(dòng)詞(如advice, demand, intend等等)或名詞(如recommendation, suggestion等等)+that-clause; 二是It is necessary〔desirable, essential, important等〕+that-clause。④表示驚愕、遺憾、欣慰、悔恨、失望、突然、出乎意料等感情。⑤表示有很大可能性,是預(yù)期中的,幾乎是必然的。
- should用作獨(dú)立情態(tài)動(dòng)詞:①表示責(zé)任、義務(wù)或正當(dāng)?shù)男袨?。②表示適當(dāng)、得宜,可以構(gòu)成勸告或委婉的命令,這是表達(dá)說話人意志的謙遜有禮貌的用語。③“should+動(dòng)詞不定式的完成式”表示在某時(shí)間之前應(yīng)已完成但沒有完成的行為; 也可表示在某一時(shí)間之前做了的事情是應(yīng)當(dāng)做的。④should常與疑問詞連用表示不感興趣、難以相信等較強(qiáng)烈的感情。⑤should常用在lest, that, so that, in order that引導(dǎo)的從句中,表示期望、結(jié)果或目的。
