常用用法

instance作為動(dòng)詞解釋為“舉例說(shuō)明”，前面一般加as，不過(guò)也可以省略as，但是通常加as用的比較普遍。He speaks several European languages, as instance Spanish. He speaks several European languages, instance Spanish.

這兩個(gè)詞都有“例子”或“實(shí)例”的意思,?？苫Q使用。例如:
He cited examples〔instances〕 in order to prove his statement.他舉例證明自己的說(shuō)法。它們之間的區(qū)別是:
1.example主要指在同類(lèi)事物中舉出一個(gè)具有代表性、典型性的“例子”,有“通例”的意思; instance則常指用一個(gè)單獨(dú)的事實(shí)作為“例子”來(lái)說(shuō)明一種廣泛的道理或結(jié)論。例如:
She could quote hundreds of these examples.她可以舉出許多這樣的例證來(lái)。
You can't rely on her:for instance, she arrived an hour late for an important meeting yesterday.她這個(gè)人靠不住。舉例說(shuō)吧,昨天一個(gè)重要會(huì)議她就遲到了一個(gè)小時(shí)。
2.example通常多用于教育中,而instance則不一定。
