From a neuroscience viewpoint, a thought is just a secretion, a droplet of a chemical where two brain cells connect (synapse).

Brain is not a binary system. Every synapse reacts in a different way dependent on environmental variables (chemical composition, stress etc. ). This is termed 'plasticity'.
