His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand graciously granted the institute a new name, "Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT)".

The SIIT Board of Trustees appoints the external Academic Review Committee comprising reputable professors in various fields to provide guidance and recommendations on academic affairs.

SIIT is financially and administratively separate from the government administration of the university and supervised by a Board of Trustees who reports to Thammasat University Council.
